This one-day combined course provides an introduction to the autism spectrum and how to support people on the autism spectrum using the SPELL framework. Focusing on increasing understanding of autism, this will link into using supportive approaches. SPELL is a framework for understanding and responding to the needs of children and adults on the autism spectrum developed through evidence-based practice.

The course brings together two of our most popular courses, enabling both an overview of autism alongside a summary session of the SPELL framework. It is not as in-depth as our individual courses on understanding autism and supporting people on the autism spectrum (SPELL framework), but it is an option for organisations who may have limited time.

Course overview

  • Key areas of difference in autism
  • Impact of autism
  • Individuality
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Introduction to the SPELL framework

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for anyone working with children or adults on the autism spectrum who is looking for an introduction to autism and supportive approaches. For delegates with limited knowledge in autism and supportive strategies and no previous training, we would recommend our individual courses on understanding autism and supporting people on the autism spectrum (SPELL framework).

Benefits of attending

  • Increased understanding of the autism spectrum
  • Be able to identify the main areas of difference
  • Understand that autism affects people in different ways
  • Recognise some causes of anxiety for people on the autism spectrum
